About Us

We are experienced Chinese medicine practitioners and educators, each with over 30 years of clinical experience. United by a shared passion for Chinese medicine education, we have both played key roles in developing and delivering accredited programs in New Zealand. Our joint interest in empowering others through Chinese medicine self-care techniques has brought us together to create and teach this workshop.

Debra Betts (PhD)

With a foundation in nursing before discovering Chinese medicine, my career has been a dynamic journey through healthcare, education, and women's health advocacy.
My practice began with promoting acupuncture for fertility and pregnancy support, expanded into developing specialized courses in acupressure for pregnancy issues, acupuncture courses for midwives, publishing a textbook on acupuncture care in pregnancy and completing a PhD.

More recently I been involved in designing and leading blended learning NZQA-approved Bachelor's and Master's programs in Chinese medicine. My background in western has led to a passion to promote the potential of Chinese medicine techniques in supporting integrative approaches to healthcare.

Dr Joan Campbell

Has been teaching Chinese medicine to health professionals since 1990 in New Zealand and China (private providers, postgraduate programmes at AUT, Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine).  In 1975, in a very basic acupuncture clinic in Guangzhou, Joan fell in love with Chinese medicine (CM), did some basic acupuncture training in Auckland, and then returned to China in 1989 to study.

Since then, she has integrated CM alongside her western medical training – registered nurse, medical doctor, psychologist, GP obstetrician, teacher, and NZQA auditor and assessor.

She feels humbled and privileged to work in a holistic system of medicine as old as time itself, that treats the presenting complaints within the overall care of the person.
